3 Tips for Choosing the Right Childcare Center
The development which occurs during children’s first years will affect the rest of their lives. From infancy through preschool, children establish the foundations on which they will build the rest of their lives. Selecting the right daycare or preschool for your child is a decision which needs to be made carefully and with lots of consideration. Follow these three tips to make sure you choose the best childcare center for your children.
1. Plan a Visit
Before you make your decision, set up a time to visit and tour the daycare. Meet the staff and pay attention to how the children behave and interact. Make sure the environment is clean, adequately child-proofed and provides plenty of age-appropriate activities and toys.
2. Observe Staff Interacting with Children
During your child’s early years, quality interaction with trusted adults is essential to healthy development and growth. While visiting, pay attention to how staff interact with children. What quality of contact do infants receive? Do staff members talk with or at children? What is the child-to-caregiver ratio? Are the staff engaging with the children?
3. Consider Policies
Ask about the potential site’s policies to ensure their childcare philosophies (such as discipline methods, television and nutritional choices) align with your own. Not only will this give you peace of mind, it will also provide the most consistency for your child resulting in a seamless transition between home and childcare.
